The American Legion Allen-McKinney Post 44, Harrison, Arkansas is named for Pvt. Roy Allen, USA and Pfc. Nolan McKinney, USMC.  The post honors both of these men for making the ultimate sacrifice when killed in action while serving their country during war.

Pvt. Roy Allen was the first WWI KIA from Boone County. Roy Allen was serving his country during World War I when he gave his all in the line of duty. He had enlisted in the United States Army. Allen had the rank of Private. Attached to 28th Division, 111th Infantry Regiment. He was killed on 3 October 1918.

 

Allen was born on 3 February 1895. According to available records Arkansas was his home or enlistment state and Boone county has been included within the archival record. We have Alpena listed as his city.

 

During his service in World War I, Army Private Allen experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on 3 October 1918. Recorded circumstances attributed to: Killed in Action. Incident location: France.

Roy Allen is currently buried in the Meuse Argonne Cemetary, Romagne, France, Grave 11, Plot C, Row 44.

Private First Class (PFC) Nolan McKinney (Service Number: 320082) was born 16 June 1924 to Ernest F. and Maude Lemon Cagle McKinney in Texas. He had three sisters, Helen, Laura, and Iris. The family would eventually move to Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas. He would later enlist into the United States Marine Corps and saw service in the Philippines during WWII. During combat operations on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, PFC McKinney was Killed in Action on 22 November 1942. His body was never recovered and listed as Missing in Action.The War department later

determined he would have been a casualty. He was the first Boone County,

Arkansas casualty of WWII. He is memorialized in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial located at Metro Manila, Philippines.


His medals and decorations include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze service star, World War II Victory Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation.
